A day without corona death in twin cities

Rawalpindi : The population in Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi district witnessed a day without reporting of death due to coronavirus illness, COVID-19 on Saturday after over three months though 126 new patients have been reported from the region in the last 24 hours showing the outbreak is still intact.

It is alarming that in the last 24 hours, the positivity rate of COVID-19 has been recorded as 5.01 per cent in Rawalpindi district where almost all private and public sector educational institutions at all levels are going to be operational from tomorrow (Monday).

It is important that educational institutions have already reopened in the district last week to operate classes for matriculation and intermediate levels. The positivity rate recorded in the district in the last 24 hours is the highest in the last two weeks.

In-charge District COVID-19 Cell Rawalpindi Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Jawad Zahid informed ‘The News’ on Saturday that out of 1,105 samples tested for COVID-19 in the district in the last 24 hours, 55 were tested positive at a positivity rate of 5.01 per cent.

He added that to date, as many as 41,2576 persons have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 in the district including 385,627 individuals from the general public and 26,949 health workers.

To date, a total of 106,042 patients have been reported from the twin cities that amounts to 11.4 per cent of the total cases so far reported from Pakistan. It is worth mentioning here that the virus has claimed as many as 1,740 lives from the region that is 8.21 per cent of the total deaths caused by COVID-19 from all across Pakistan.

Data collected by ‘The News’ has revealed that another 86 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 from ICT and 40 from Rawalpindi district in the last 24 hours.

From Rawalpindi district, a total of 24416 patients have so far been reported of which 977 have lost their lives while 23,035 have recovered from the illness. On Saturday, there were a total of 404 active cases of the disease from Rawalpindi of which 34 patients belonging to the district were hospitalized in town while 370 were in isolation at their homes.
