CDC endorses pregnant women to get vaccinated against Covid 19

WASHINGTON: On Wednesday, CDC endorsed pregnant women to get vaccinated against Covid-19.CDC claimed that evidence shows that the vaccine does not raise the risk of miscarriage.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s director, Rochelle Walensky, stated the agency “encourages all pregnant women or those thinking about getting pregnant, as well as those breastfeeding, to get vaccinated to protect themselves from Covid-19.”

“The vaccines are safe and effective, and it has never been more urgent to increase vaccinations as we face the highly transmissible Delta variant and see severe outcomes from Covid-19 among unvaccinated pregnant people,” Walensky said.

Only one out of every four pregnant women has received at least a first dose of the Covid vaccination, according to recent studies.

According to the CDC, a study of existing data revealed no increased risk of miscarriage among almost 2,500 pregnant women who got an mRNA Covid-19 vaccination before 20 weeks of pregnancy — the type of dose manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna in the United States.

According to the study, miscarriage rates among women who got the Covid-19 vaccination were approximately 13%, which is similar to the usual miscarriage rate of 11-16% of pregnancies.

“The benefits of receiving a Covid-19 vaccine for pregnant people outweigh any known or potential risks,” the CDC said.

“The increased risk of severe illness and pregnancy complications related to Covid-19 infection among pregnant people make vaccination for this population more urgent than ever,” it added.
