Iran on Friday reported 21,885 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country’s total infections to 3,485,940.
The pandemic has so far claimed 86,791 lives in Iran, up by 199 in the past 24 hours, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education reported.
A total of 3,101,618 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 4,135 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.
By Friday, 5,688,452 people have received their first doses of coronavirus vaccines in the country, with 2,249,811 taking two doses.
Iranian health authorities have re-imposed restrictions amidst the resurgence of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country as the number of infections has been rising steadily in most parts of Iran over the past few days.
Iran reported its first cases of the disease in February 2020.
